· Appropriate tool inventory
· Good customer and peer relationship and communication skills
· Maintains professional appearance and wears appropriate shop uniforms
· Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record recommended
· MSDS training
· Man-lift training
· Shop Safety Training
· Torch safety with basic welding and cutting skills
· Tire safety training
· Forklift training certificate
· Fire Safety training
· Complies with all site specific rules, procedures, and duties
· Keeps shop and work area clean and safe
· Proficient in performing all PMs and documenting the information correctly
· Certified to perform all DOT annual inspections and documentation
· Has a CDL A with air brake designation recommended
· ABS training
· Federal air brake certification
· Skilled in tire maintenance and tread wear analysis
· Basic electrical systems starting and charging
· Able to perform diesel and gas engine tune ups
· Capable of diagnosing and repairing air conditioning systems
· Federal and State certification in refrigerant recycling
· Basic front end, tandem axle and trailer alignment skills
· Can perform minor refrigeration unit repairs and competent in their operation
· Required to work standby as needed
Job Duties:
· Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and accurately diagnosing issues using the available technologies in the shop; identifies worn and damaged parts.
· Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules.
· Correctly installs new components and part upgrades.
· Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
· Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
· Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing truck/tractor engine and all mechanicals for safety, and combustion control standards.
· Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting when necessary.
· Maintains vehicle records by legibly, neatly and correctly annotating services and repairs on the expected paperwork and software programs.
· Accurately records all part numbers on work orders through submitted paperwork and in the designated software programs.
· Keeps shop equipment operating by following correct operating instructions; troubleshoots breakdowns; maintains supplies; performs preventive maintenance; and calls for assistance if needed.
· Consults with our parts department and evaluates service and parts options.
· Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; communicates effectively with parts department, places orders when necessary and verifies receipt with the parts department.
· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reads technical and regulation publications.
· Truck Fleet strongly encourages all technicians/mechanics to improve their professional knowledge by pursuing ASE certifications in all applicable areas of their job.
· Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to personal job accomplishments.
· Able to make roadside calls in all weather conditions to assist any customer with an issue on the road. This must be accomplished in an appropriate time frame following all company safety and procedural standards.
